Pingel shifter on an 81 GL1100

Postby bloodraven31 » Tue Aug 02, 2016 8:21 am

I'm a disabled rider rebuilding (slowly) an 81 GL1100. I recently went from having 1/2 of my left foot to having no left foot and was wondering if anyone had installed a Pingel shifter system and could share any info or warnings. I used a Pingel on my 66 Ironhead chopper and was very pleased with it which is why I thought of adding one to easy riding the Wing.

Thanks for at least reading this question, BloodRaven31

Sorry to hear about your foot.

There's not a lot of room to get to the shifter on a GL1100, what with the left head in the way, but I'm sure someone somewhere has done it before. All it takes is the right mounting point and geometry to get it to work.

Pingel makes a shifter kit for a 1500 and just by looking at the mounting for the shifter, looks close for a 1100. Might give them a call, also disability motorcycle aids.com has a lot of info. just might lead to just what you are looking for.

Thanks! I knew about the 1500 kit by Pingel and figured it was the best starting point, I didn't know about the disabled aids one. See what happens when you get tunnel vision? You miss options.
