Turn signal switch

Postby claycouturier » Tue Aug 09, 2016 7:49 pm

I have a naked 81 gl1100I I'm in the process of putting new lights on it and also a new switch to control everything. This is what I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BR ... UTF8&psc=1 It's more simple than the original but I would like to make it work. the signal switch just one wire in and two out. The original wiring is really confusing me. Can I take out the turn signal buzzer and buzzer sensors and still have it work? Do I need a new flasher relay? Last time I was working on it left turned on and stayed on and right just made the relay click once and no light.

That fancy OEM turn signal switch is just 2 switches in one housing. The buzzer can be cut loose if you like.
The turn signal relay can be replaced if it's bad.
The complex wiring..Use your new one directly in place of the original.
The other 3 wires are used to turn off the marker filament when that turn signal is flashing.Personally I'd tie those 3 together and leave the park on all the time.

"O../Lb../Gr.."are the turn signal wires with Gr as the common feed.
Br/white,Lb/wh,Or/wh.are the running lamp switch.Tie them together.

Hard to say without looking at the wiring.
The turn signal flasher is powered through the ignition key.If it were that, turning the key off would have shut it off.
If it's a hazard flasher (my gl1100's did not have one)....this may be a add on that's failed.Sorry but the only thing I can say is...Get it to do that again and listen for the flasher clicking...Unplug it..determine if it's OEM or add on.
