Radiator Wiring Question

Postby Hoosier Jack » Thu Aug 18, 2016 8:23 am

The picture above shows three wires that need to be connected from the wiring bundle coming from the radiator on my 82 1100, and one (#3) coming from the underside of the right side of the block. #1 is a red/black wire and I believe that it is supposed to connect to the water temp sensor and #2 and #3 should connect, but I'm not positive.

I looked at an 83 motor I have hoping that it would guide me but the wire going to the sending unit on it was green. There is no green wire coming out of that bundle on the 82. Wire #2 is a steel/aluminum ?? braided line and I believe that is the case with the wire coming from underneath(#3). If anyone knows which goes where I would appreciate it.

Sorry I can't help much but I can tell you this.
As soon as you turn on the key,one wire should have 12 volts on it.That wire is attached to the fan.The other wire from the fan goes to the temperature switch. Its near the temperature sensor. The sensor has one terminal, the fan switch has 2.The green wire goes to one terminal and the fan to the other.
Now if somebody replaced the switch and it has only one terminal, attach the fan wire to it and leave the green one off.
Be sure that you don't attach the fan to the temperature sending unit. They look very similar. The fan has power with the key on and the switch grounds the circuit to turn the fan on.

I figured it out. the red/black went to the neutral switch and the other one to the sending unit. all fixed.
