motor trouble

Postby dspeta » Thu Aug 25, 2016 5:11 pm

my bike started a grinding noise on a ride then quit starting and later found out was not charging . Pulled engine and rear cover to find the teeth ground off the altnator shaft on the engine side. Bought a used shaft put in engine back to geather started and making the grinding noise again. wondering if the starter gear can be froozen on starter chain and not releasing after starting or starter clutch locked up and not releasing after starting any ideas would be of great help before i tear this apart again thanks

Possible but not likely..read a section on starter clutches. That's what keeps the starter engaged to the engine..a spring and roller set up. Most often the clutch won't engage as the springs get gummed up.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB
