1100 noise

Postby dodge » Wed Aug 31, 2016 6:53 pm

Seems there are quite a lot of entries on noisy 1100's. My 82 runs well but has an irritating rattle at low speeds when you lug it a bit. It evens does it to some degree in first when you take off from a stop. It goes away when RPM's come up a tad but it sounds as if it is coming unglued. Well maybe not that bad but worrisome. Almost sounds as if the slides are rattling. Any thoughts? Carbs were rebuilt by Mike Nixon and re synced by DaveO430.

Very, very common. It's the primary chain, rattling with unbalanced power pulses. Syncing the carbs is the only way to decrease it - the better the carb sync, the less noise.

Makes sense, will try another sync and see if it decreases. Thanks for reply.

What did the guys say was the problem who did the work?

I would take a compression test, check timing, check spark plug condition then run some carbon cleaner through the engine for starters.

This is what I do
Local and need repair help with your 1500, Valkyrie or ST please PM
