Cleaned Carbs, bike is now stumbling

Postby joemangx » Fri Sep 02, 2016 11:56 am

Hello all, I did my annual carb inspection and cleansing, and usually this goes great and i have no issues. However, this time after going through them the bike feels starved for fuel at throttle crack up to about 1/4 throttle. Once the throttle opens wider, it takes off.

EDIT: stuck a mirror into the plenum. Only 1 of the 4 slides is moving when twisting the throttle, and not a whole lot. What could cause all 4 slides to not lift? I polished them with foil, they were very smooth.

Sounds like a vacuum prob. Slides should be working smoothly. Did you work on the the carbs yourself, or have a friend do it ? Regards, Johnny

I pulled the carb rack back out, threw a vacuum on and found two slides totally stuck. Polished all the slides again, rotated the stuck slides caps and tested again. All are moving now. Back to normal. I think the cap rotation did the trick, honestly.

Do you mean you rotated the caps 180* and re-bolted?? You did keep the slides and caps together per each carb and did not mix them up to start with??

No, I didn't mix them up. I'm very meticulous with keeping the parts with their original carbs. I did rotate the caps for the sticking slides 180°. This was the last time I will be going through them before switching to Webers. So this cleansing should last until next Summer.
