Postby Ram1068 » Sun Sep 04, 2016 1:24 pm

I have a 1978 GL1000 Goldwing ghat I am restoring. I found both helmet locks and j have no key to fit them. Is their any way to remove them without cutting or damaging the?

Interesting. The helmet locks on my 76 use the ignition key. Have you tried it?

Ignition switch was changed before I acquired the bike. Know of any way to remove the cylinders? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 82, you gave me an idea. Some companies keep records, I am going to try and see if a Honda dealer can research the bin for key code. Thanks

Yeah, I am hoping my local dealer can access the key. If he can I can order them from Honda, if not I will have to see a locksmith and get all locks keyed to match the new ignition key. Sadly my local Smith charges a hundred to do a bike set.

Helpful links. Roncar at NGW forums will cut you a key by code for pretty cheap, too

shade tree mechanic method..If the key from the ignition will fit into the helmet lock..then you can remove the cylinder from the assembly put the ignition key into the lock.. You'll see which tabs are still out just file them down to match the cylinder ..now that key works that lock..if any of the slots are above the cylinder then it won't work as you'd have to file into the slot of the tab..

There is a code number on the back side of the helmet lock on my 76.
