1983 GL1100 Radio at full volume only

Postby mrcleo » Mon Sep 05, 2016 8:45 am

Hello all. Say, I pulled my radio out to check it in another setup...worked fine. Now after I reinstalled it back into my setup the radio only works on a full volume status. No wires/connections changes or disconnections, just a screeching full volume. I don't have the remote volume setup on my bike. Any suggestions? Thanks much.

My suggestion is to call Sierra electronic.
They are the only ones who still fix these antiques. They would be the one to tell you what you need to do.
I would not call Tuesday as they just returned from the wing ding .

Thank you for the info; will give this a try as I am in no hurry to get it working. Been thinking of putting in an aftermarket radio anyway but if I had a choice I would like to stay original if possible. I did find the connector that goes to the handlebar volume remote. I cross wired it and the volume dropped to about half volume. My other though is that this may require this remote setup to work properly. Only if I find one at a very low cost will I invest in one as I happen to have a fairly new, aftermarket stereo that I will try to fit without butchering the current setup. Thank you again for your help.

Do you have the cb, intercom control buttons on the handlebars? If so, check the mute switch. I accidentally flip this one all the time. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was the first time.
