gl 1100 air pressure in front shocks

Postby processing » Sun Sep 11, 2016 11:00 am

Air pressure in my front of shocks.

Hello everyone,
I've noticed recently that when I hit a small pothole there is a distinctive click somewhere in the front. That is at the exact moment when I dip into the pothole not when I'm hitting a bumb or leaving the pothole. I'm assuming it is in the front shocks being extended quickly after they just lost contact with the road and the springs push them quickly outwards.
I realize that is that air valve on the top of the front fork. Just like on a tire. I have a compressor and I can be inside but how much pressure should I use. (I do not have a compressor my bike ). I have already tried and I noticed that the pressure lifted up the front shocks about two centimeters. Didn't ride since then so I'm not sure if the clicking sound disappeared.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks Peter

Do NOT use an air compressor to add air. You will instantly blow out your seals. Use a bicycle tire pump.
Your 30+ year old springs are probably needing replacement, even though the air stays at x lbs.

14 / 21psi recommended for forks on 1980-1982 gl1100.
