Best Source for used front end

Postby romanfj » Mon Sep 12, 2016 3:04 pm

Hi,

Had a cager decide to play chicken with me and run me into a ditch yesterday. Flipped my '82 1100I and destroyed the front end: Broken fork uppers and lowers, broken wheel, crushed rotors, cracked water pump and oil filter covers. That's just at a glance.

Other than ebay, is there any place I could buy an entire front end?

Thanks

i have a couple of friends that own motorcycle salvage yards, i know for a fact that one of them has two 82 or 83 goldwing aspencades or interstates. let me find out from them if at least the one still has them and get a price on the parts you need to fix your bike. let me know exactly what you need and i'll find out. is your triple tree still usable or does that need to be replaced also.

Thanks, Stuart! Haven't looked at the trees, yet or the steering bearing tube in the frame to see if the frame is bent, either. Will do so after work tonight and let you know. If the frame's bent, I assume all I'm left with is a parts donor bike.

48 hours and STILL finding new body parts that are sore!

im sure if you can get him the parts he needs, it will be less expensive to ship them from where you are than from where i am.

I just came back from lunch. One of my coworkers was asking about the damage to my face and when I told him about the wreck, he said he's got a 1983 Interstate he wants to get rid of for $500. It still runs.

Question: Do you know of any differences between an '82 Interstate and an '83 Interstate other than the fact that 1983 was when Honda introduced the linked braking system?

Thanks,
Frank

that sounds like a sweet deal. make sure to find out if you can what work your friend has done to his bike before you step into buying it, IE: maintenance, timing belts, brakes etc etc. here is where you can find the differences between the 82 and the 83.................http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/honda_ ... g_1982.php

then go to this for the 83 model..........http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/honda_ ... g_1983.php

they didn't change much in 2 years except for like you mentioned the linked brakes and they changed the wheels from comstock to aluminum mags.

Stuart. Thank you for the links.

My coworker's bike is presently running, but had been stored. I may actually use my wrecked bike as the parts donor for his, instead of fixing mine. Will see. Gotta check out everything, like you said.

If I fix his, I may look for a new front end for mine next year and use my wreck as the basis for a second customized bike, if the wife won't kill me
