AW82-TR1 Coil alternatives?

Postby maritimeboy » Wed Sep 21, 2016 11:46 am

Is anyone out there aware of a safe ignition coil alternative. The AW82-TR1 that is on my 1980 GL1100 are had to find unless you are willing to mortgage your house.

Thx in advance guys and gals.
;)
Cheers

try this.............http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=30 ... 3&_sacat=0

you should be able to find a pair that fit your bike at a "reasonable" price.

Lots of 1100 guys have swapped to a Dodge Neon coil with good results. As low $20 new.

Mine came out of a 1996 Dodge Neon. I believe you can use from 1995 to 2002. Lots of cars use these coils, PT cruiser and the old sunbirds also.
Wires up real easy, and it works awesome! :D
There is a post on this site, viewtopic.php?t=11085

Hey Johnyy, thanks for the link to the thread. much obliged. not that i need to make the change, but its good info to have on hand "just in case". question, can this also be done to an 86 1200 SEi?

Stuart,
Here is the link I got the idea from http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-g ... s-too.html
From what I gather, it should work on the 1200.
I noticed a little more horsepower in the low range, better idle, and darn fast startups.
All for under $40!
Very sweet, indeed. Regards, Johnny

Everyone appears to like the Neon just fine but I found a couple of new Aw82-tr1 in New York for under $40 for 2.
I hope that is the last issue with this broken wing

Cheers
