If you can get it warm and soft enough that it adheres to the compound curves, then it should look great! Post some pictures when you're done!

I saw a video or a show once about coating fenders etc. It was only for camo but they just dripped the piece in a tank and it came out coated..hung to dry and that was it.

This is different , it's a 1080 3m wrap using a heat gun .comes on a roll cut/shape/heat/smooth down . Job done ...back in the real world , , I've never done this before so it will be a learning curve.rbgerson I'd be interested to know more about the dipping one

We have a guy in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada who wrapped his GL1500 with sidecar. He did it in a dayglo green or yellow. Did a good job of it. Everyone thinks it is paint. He took the bike apart and did it over the winter in his kitchen. He made Wing World magazine, but I cannot find the issue. I will keep looking.

Just as an aside, I know the guy who did this wrap, and he is 75 years old. He went to a wrap guy and got lessons before he tried it. Then he ordered one foot of wrap and did what he could with that. When he found out he could do it, he ordered enough to do the rest. He is a pretty picky old codger, so it will probably last forever. And if he needs to redo any of it, he has enough extra lying around for repairs,

Hydro dip is different than paint floating on water. It is actually a pattern printed onto a water-soluble polymer sheet. That sheet is then floated on the water, and the polymer allowed to dissolve, leaving just the paint/ink floating on the water. The item is them dipped into the water, and the pattern sticks onto it.

Swirl seems like an easy way to paint. Just use one color and dip? Then clear coat. Am I missing something?

I would think, using one color only, that it would attempt to become a solid surface but could break up in a random pattern when dipped. If very careful however, it might just paint your object. You would have to attempt it and then report back with your findings.

Another option is Plasti-dip. I get mine from https://www.prodip.ca Stuff comes in a wide variety of colours (yes, that's spelled right eh?!)

It's a spray on plastic coating used for all manner of things. I have an illusion Red 2015 and I have selectively coated a number of items on it black (front fender, radiator grill accents, dash, fuel door, side panels, rear panel, air foil, both wheels). I'm not done yet, but it looks sharp (at least to me).

Take the part off or mask it off and spray it with 5 or 6 light coats and it looks like paint when it's done. Quite durable at this point and can be touched up as/when necessary.

Best part of it is, don't like it? - just peel it off with no residual left on the item (helmet didn't work out so well, I stripped if off in two minutes).
