squirrel......Wish you had posted some pics. as I need to do the same to my GL1100.....got the rear totally frozen up and the brake pedal will not budge. I want to jump on that as soon as I finish tweeking my carb issues......still scratching my head why one intake pipe is super cold when running.

Squirrel,
These btake rebuilds are not the most fun. I've done about a dozen of them, they get easier the more you do. The brake systems on most of these old bikes need attention espically if they have sat for any length of time or previous owners did not service the brake systems on a regular basis. Brake fluid attracts moisture and then turns acidic, once that process occurs the acidic fluid attacks the rubber seals, master cylinders and the aluminum caliper.
Point being, if the seals in your rear caliper were compromised, you may want to look at the other components for wear as well. All have most likely all been priviledged to the same maintenance over the years. Think safety, nothing worse then grabbing a handful of front or rear brake to find nothing there.

Take a look at the spark plug.See if its sooty.
Also check the temp of the exhaust header compared to the next one.
Check the pair of cylinders compression. They should be within 5psi of each other.
Just find what's different.A process of elimination.Spark, fuel and compression.
A cold intake runner may have evaporating fuel cooling it down.Perhaps that one is dumping much more fuel than the rest.
A sticking float?Stuck to the top slide?

Virgilmobile.....I posted more pics and detailed what is going on regarding the super cold No. 4 intake pipe under another thread. Yep, you are right.....No. 4 was dumping too much gas into the cylinder, making the pipe cold.
