ignition coils

Postby andrew k » Sat Sep 04, 2010 2:50 pm

I recently was given a gl 1100.When i got the bike it had been sitting up inside for about 7 years. It would not idle, and the brakes were locked up . I rebuilt the brake systems and had the carbs rebuilt by a honda dealership.I also had to replace the gas tank , petcock and fuel sending unit. After all that i finally got to ride it,for about 1 and 1/2 tanks of gas. About 1/2 way through the second tank it fould out the #1 spark plug . After a couple of plugs and tanks of gas i finally discovered that my ignition coil was cracked.I took them off today, but i am not sure what or where to order new ones. I would like to go back with o.e.m. honda parts, but ihave not been able to find but one . I would love some feed back from someone with a little more Goldwing expertise, since this is my first one

For coils, your best bet is going to be the used parts sources - eBay, bike breakers, that sort of thing. They're definitely available.

Don't know if they have them, but I think the name of the site I go to is "sabercycle.com".

It's a bit more than your point of view, it's a well-documented fact. Apart from the fact that they have legendary bad, abusive customer service, they sell cheap Chinese knock-off parts that often fail shortly after they are installed. I haven't heard of anyone who put a Saber Cycle water pump in their bike who DIDN'T have it fail within a few months, for instance.
