camshaft 1980 Goldwing

Postby yoland » Sat Sep 11, 2010 6:15 pm

Hi i need somme information about changing a camshaft or repairing. The tip of my wright camshaft is broken where it makes the gas pump and the rpm work. Somebody told me a should replace both ? the engine just have 39 000 KM or 24500 miles. Is it possible to weld the piece back ? A new part is 250 $ . Is it a big job to replace ? ...

Thanks for your help

You could probably weld it together again, but will it last? How much stress is it under when the engine is working under normal RPMs?
I would keep a eye out for another used cam on eBay with low mileage and the same year. You may have to buy both sides. A quick check on the Honda parts fishe may tell you that later models may work as well if they have the same numbers.

1980 it,s the GL base model. What's the miliage on your camshaft ? What would be the cost ? I am from Canada ( New-Brunswick) i have to check for the shipping ..post charge . I Just bought some parts from Bike Bandit on the web and the cost of shipping was more the the parts...

You could go without your tach (or install a replacement electronic tach) and install an electric fuel pump, as an alternative.

Don't know about electronic tachs, but you can get electric fuel pumps from Randakk's site.

I f I have one I wouldn't know the mileage..but would spec it for you and give you the current reading on all four cams..it would be from an 80 or 81. If ship USPS flat rate but I can check that online..$30 plus freight if you are interested I'll good look for it and mic it out..
