Needle Jets or No Needle Jets in 81 Intersate carb

Post by puttersup » Wed May 24, 2017 5:02 pm

I am really scratching my head here...

I pulled apart the carbs off of my barn find 81 Interstate. I am starting to wonder if the person I bought it from tinkered with it and need some help.

In my manual, it shows that there should be should be a needle jet, and a needle jet holder. It does not show an idle jet though. I have seen videos online that show folks removing a main jet that unscrews and is one unit (integrated jet and holder). Those videos also show the removal of the idle jet.

In my carbs, I do not have a needle jet and holder, but do have the integrated one piece jet and holder. I don't have present the idle jet though.

In a previous thread, someone mentioned that I should have an idle jet that presses in.

When I bought a carb kit, it came with screw in idle jets, the one piece main jet, without the needle jet.

It runs well at higher rpms, but not at low rpms.

What the heck should I actually have in the 81 Interstate Carb??!!
