oil in radiator

Postby i love goldwings » Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:30 pm

my gl1100 has oil in rad and has "butter" on over flow tank cap. engine is not running hot.I'm thinking head gasket is bad. Is there any other way oil can get into coolant in a gl1100 engine?

It can happen if the internal or external seals on the water pump have failed, but if this has happened, you will almost certainly have oil/coolant/both leaking from the weep hole on the bottom of the water pump housing. If it's dry there, then I'd say you've got a head gasket replacement in your future.

I have the head gaskets just in case. I found the bike on craigs list in denver co. I had to do timing belts right away. New rear tire and seat cover and i"m done.Had a trip planned through yellowstone park when my gl went down. I borrowed a friends harley. I am hoping my hearing will return in a few more days.Although i am sure I have permanantly damaged the rest of my body from the vibration.
