final drive compatibility

will an 82 final drive bolt up to an 80. it seems like the 80s are hard to find used. when I took the back wheel off to mount a new tire I found a dry final drive flange with the teeth worn almost flat, I think the only thing that was keeping it from slipping was the rust

different part numbers for those years..but if the teeth count is the same it should bolt up..safest is to replace all of it form the pinon gear back including the gear inside the wheel. so the tooth wear will match. Check wheel size that maybe the issue different rim diameter..you could change out the whole rear end including caliper. Never done so just my opinion.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB
