Calipers won't come off my 1100 Wing

Post by kvdsr » Thu Sep 21, 2017 3:41 pm

I removed the bolts on the calipers and the caliper mounting brackets and I can't pull the calipers off of the rotors. Maybe the brake pads wore the rotors down to the point that the pads aren't able to clear the outer edge of the rotor that isn't worn down ...?

Didn't want to use too much force or try to tap on the caliper with a wooden block before I checked with the pros for recommendations .....

If the wheel is locked up it could be the caliper is frozen -or cannot release, undo the brake bleeder nipple it may release a bit of pressure. Other than that - a good hit with a rubber mallet will not break anything, and should move the pistons enough that you can lift off the caliper.

Sometimes it's exactly that - there is that groove on the outer edge of the rotor. I will use a flat screwdriver to gently push the pads away, which will retract the piston a little bit, to give it enough clearance to free the caliper.

yup just open bleeder and with screwdriver pry pad in might take a little but will work. I had a frozen caliper on left side couple weeks ago took abit of prying but got it off and rebuilt and back on road having a blast as always.
