Looking for matching rattle can paint

Post by Joneszy » Mon Oct 30, 2017 10:46 pm

Wanting to paint a part on my 1983 Aspencade. The top corners of the trunk have really been sun damaged at some time. The color I am trying to match is Nimbus Gray code NH125MU. Can't seem to find a supplier for this paint so was wondering if anyone has been able to closely match this color with another automotive paint color. If so what brand and code paint did you use. If anyone knows of a supplier for the original color that would be terrific info to have as well.

I don't know about the US, but RS Bike Paint here in the UK www.rsbikepaint.com
have the colour you need.

Check with your local auto paint supplier. They usually have a camera, they can shoot a pic of the color you want and mix up some basecoat and put in a rattle can for you. I've done this a couple times now and they got it real close. As long as you are not doing a blend it should look spot on! I have a post on this somewhere search for it.I believe it's the same color you want.

Yes an excellent site in the UK, have it bookmarked for future bike colour reference. Still can't locate a supplier in Canada but my next step is likely what 4wred suggests re a custom mix. Thanx for the replies so far.

Went to your post link 4wred and looks like a nice job you did on your bike and you were correct. That is the color I am trying to duplicate.

Keep in mind ALL of the paint will have faded some, so if you use a paint that matches the original manufacturer paint color, it won't match what it is NOW. You'll likely have to paint all of the trunk to get it to be consistent.

Hi Wingadmin I hear you regarding the fading so I'm thinking that if I get a custom paint supplier to take a shot of the current trunk color and match to that I may get closer than buying something to match the original color. I am also planning on taking a sample of the trunk & side cover to a nearby parts supply store and see what they have that might be very close.

I really liked the Spray Max 2k paint and I think that you can get it color matched. I used the one with the clear coat mixed in. Did a job on a Suzuki GS750 tank. Came out better than a couple of spray gun parts I've done.

Joneszy, found this if you are still looking. Little pricey but they do have free world wide shipping.

Hi Stephenricci and thanx for that. Looks like a touch-up kit though and I have to do the whole trunk lid. Will keep this info in case I decide to do some chips /scratches later on.
