82 GW GL 11000 Strip Oil Filter Bolt Head

Post by RuDogGL » Thu Nov 09, 2017 9:22 pm

1982 GoldWing GL 1100i, wanting to drain the Oil and change the filter, I strip the Head on the Oil filter, any suggestion on how to remove it now.

Those are standard spin on oil filters? I don't know how accessible it is (only familiar with the GL1500) but on cars I've hammered a long screwdriver through a stubborn oil filter to unscrew it.

A fairly common problem. Sometimes you can use a vice-grip or even pipe wrench to get them loose.

They are commonly available, both from Honda and from aftermarket manufacturers.

When I was first putting the 1100 on the road, stripped mine out too. Pipe wrench got it off. Funny, the hex head on it was only 12mm. The replacement I got IIRC is a 17mm.
They say 98% of all Hardleys ever made are still on the road..... The other 2% made it home.
(I stole this from somebody on another GW site...)

I used a grinder and ground the head off.
I have an extra one if you need it.

Thanks for all the replies really cool 8-), 98 % was funny. I had a impact extractor set, picture below that is made just like a socket. So I was able to use the number #5 on my 17mm bolt head. I pounded the extractor on with a hammer and made sure if was flush on every side and after eating my Spinach and saying that's all I can stand and can stand no more I got it off. Wilcoy02 thanks for the offer, but I'll just buy one being the prices is so low and it my cost more to ship here .

WilCoy02, It seem like I might have to take you up on using your extra one, everyone is either out or high price.
