Key can be removed from ignition while bike is running

Post by PuppyWing » Mon Dec 25, 2017 10:43 pm

Hi all. Since I had the bike, the key can pulled out of the ignition regardless of whatever mode it's in. However, the key works fine on the luggage and false tank locks. I had a new key cut which didn't solve the ignition problem and it didn't work on the other locks. I would like to keep everything as original as possible and avoid having extra keys but if I need to get a new ignition switch then so be it. Is there a way to rebuild or repair the original ignition cylinder so I can use only one key for the entire bike? I've read not-so-great reviews on aftermarket ignition switches but if there are reliable ones out there, please let me know.

Hey PuppyWing, my 83 aspy key did the same thing, in fact, my 86 1200 also does it. my theory to this is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. just keep an eye on the key to make sure its not vibrating out of the switch. Why spend money if you don't have to.

Stuart.

I ride a 82 Goldwing my key comes out. i love that. The ignition switch is all broke in. What do you expect from a 36yr old bike?
