white smoke from the carb intake

hi to all
WHEN THE BIKE IS UP AND RUNNING - i have a mytery white smoke coming from the carb intake- when the air filter is of. when the filter and cover are on, no smoke is seen.
any meanings that u can think of?

White smoke from the exhaust is usually a sign of water in the combustion chamber (usually a failed head gasket) but on the inlet side is unusual, as stated the crankcase breather vents into the air filter box and admission side, could it be condensation from inside your engine as the engine gets warm that is venting out the breather and that is what you are seeing? Don’t know what else to suggest

gary,if i had only waited 1 day i would have all the answers..
thick white smoke, jet clean plug, some oil in the radiator overflow .. wonder what that could be
what do u say guys, i orderd a head gasket. planning on being a true winger and do it my self.
does basic mechanic skills will be enough to pull it of f?
before i go at it, first, what replacment parts should i have - if lets say the head checks fine for damage or cracks? if so, any kit could be found online? (exept the gasket i have orderd).
2. a torque wrench, nuts and open wrenches for the mechanical operation,will i need any special tools for the job?
hopefully your replys will fill my self confidence jar..

I would be running a compression test on each cylinder before thinking of changing a head gasket. It is definitely something that can be done at home, but it’s a lot of work. You obviously realize there are 2 sets of heads (left & right sides) I assume you are only planning to change one side? Is there water in the engine oil? Or just some oil in the coolant?

and, if I interpreted you correctly, you realize that ONLY and OEM Honda head gasket will work?

Every time I have read of anyone trying to use an after market head gasket on a motorcycle, they fail.

are there any other scenarios for smoke out of right exaust pipe (smells sweet as the situation im in ) , clean plug, oil in coolant and a very clear missfire on #3 cylinder? my compression guage test is still in transit, will be here around middle of january.
no coolant in the cranckase oil due to no sign of "milky" oil.
about the head gasket: orderd one according to reviews.but its not an oem, will get an oem one after ur info ( never buy stuff online when ur off balace due to wing problems...).
its my first go on a gasket fix- so ill go for 1 side for now, see if ill get it right and hopefully it'll end there. if second side will show signs of gasket problems ill be more comfortable second time around.

if the smoke from the exhaust smells sweet, and is slippery to the touch, you have antifreeze leaking into a cylinder.

buy an OEM Honda head gasket set and replace both sides.

The water pump will not cause what you are seeing, if it is leaking, there can be water in the oil, or oil in the water... and maybe both... and here, only buy an OEM Honda water pump.

Clean plug, misfire AND sweet smell?? Definitely head gasket.

If it's your first one, and you have not fair extensive experience around engines, pay someone you can trust. The job entails a LOT of work, and if done improperly, can ruin the engine, worst case; and need to be redone best case.
By a lot of work, I mean at least three hours for a VERY experienced mechanic, up to a bunch more for those not intimately familiar with the beastie.
