Post by ernest rudshtein » Tue Jan 02, 2018 2:06 am

im in need of some info you guys
im in the middle of a head gasket job my first time doing that
ive got all the parts off ( heads cams belts and rockers) cleaned all and orderd all new oem parts.
now im facing reassembly.
can anyone please post a link on the right way to reassamble all the parts? a quick litteral guidence is good as well.
i dont wanna do anything wrong regarding the cams/rockers/timming belts sync.
also, should i spray cooper sealent on the gasket, or OEM gasket already has sealent in it?
tnx for any reply

take the heads to a machine shop, tell them what you are doing.

ask them to resurface them "Just enough" to make sure they are totally flat.

they will know what you want, it is a common practice that SHOULD ALWAYS be done when putting new gaskets on.

if you don't, you risk having a water leak.... and that is no fun.

another question
the gasket i removed was an after market one- failled horribly. how can i check if the head was flatend in the past? if so, will it change the valve clearance? if ill take it to a machineshop to be flatend once more?
dont wanna end up loosing compression

regards

If you have a steel office ruler, lay it across the head.

If there is any daylight showing you will know that it needs to see a machinist.

or, just ask a machinist to lightly true it up, they do that all the time.
what they take off is extremely small.

when a head is flattened (we call it skimmed) they just remove a small amount of metal from the cylinder head where the head gasket sits, this has NO effect on valve clearances, but you obviously need to check the clearances once you have the engine back together. Just set them to the Honda recommended clearances.

Great stuff if used properly.

my dad taught me how to use it back in 1958....
but at the time, the brand name was KopperKote or something like that.

K&W owns it now.

Amazon has it, should be able to find it in any good auto supply store.
