Remove the saddle and the fuel sending unit will be right there on top. Pull the connectors and clean them. If this doesn't correct the problem, then you may have to pull and clean the sending unit itself. Not sure where but there is a realy good DIY article on this posted on one of the Goldwing sites.

How did it stop - showing empty all the time, or full? Is the temperature gauge also malfunctioning?

The sender unit is mechanical and electric..arm moves along a coil to change voltage? and feeds the gauge..There is a very thin wire, coil wire, that is attached to the positive side of the contacts if it broken that's it..no signal..I guess it could be reattached somehow but very thin wire!! IF you remove the casing of the sender unit you can see all of it..they can be cleaned with a very short dip into muriatic acid..80/20 solution or 50/50 should do it..

Note if you need a replacement I have some $20 plus shipping.tested and they work.

PS you can test the output by putting meter leads on the two tabs, set the meter to ohms and move the arm if the reading changes it working..you can do it on the bike and if the meter reads 0 = broken wire.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
