Rough running

Post by Wingman40 » Sun Apr 01, 2018 8:04 pm

Hello everyone, I am a proud owner of a 1980 Honda Goldwing 1100. When I got the bike the carbs had to be rebuilt and a new gas tank installed and brakes needed work. All done and ran fine. Was outside letting it warm up and some how my son managed to tip it over(although not all the way thankful to my crash bars) but now it runs really rough and acceleration is rough too. Any help where I should start would be great!

I have heard of timing belts breaking after a tip over, no idea why. If the cam was in just the right position it could have slightly bent a couple valves and still run on 1 side. Have you changed the belts? It could have also dislodged some debris in the carbs or caused an electrical connection to come loose.

No I haven't done anything. I ran to the bike and hit the kill switch, stood it back up, let it set for about 2-3 minutes and cranked it after checking for any leaks.Took a minute to start like it was flooded but leveled out. Started home with it as I wasn't far (15 miles or so) and the closer I got the worse it got. Definitely couldnt hit it wide open as it would just bogged.

Any chance that there was water in the tank and tipping it over..it got a slug of it in the fuel system?
I'd probably drain all 4 carbs..replace the fuel filter and try again.
It sounds like fuel starved.

Well I filled it up probably about 2:00 yesterday and rode it for about 2 hours with no problems. Gonna crank her up this morning and see what she does.

Well I cramked her up again hoping that everything would be okay and it is still doing the same thing. It will rev up past 4k now though. Just sounds really rough!
