backrest help

Postby jeffinpittsburgh » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:37 pm

i just got my driver backrest however it didn't come with mounting hardware...just the clevis pins for mounting it to something. i spent the majority of the last 2 days calling internet "wing" stores and got pretty much the same answer from them all...not available. i am sure someone here has them or can get them, even tell me who can fabricate them and how to get them...as this forum is awesome.here are some pictures of the base that mounts to "something"...

blessings in advance

That's the same backrest that I have. There are two brackets, one on each side. They fasten to the frame, and consist of a clevis-type bracket in front, which is the pivot, and a plastic rest at the back, where the flat part of the backrest frame rests when it is all the way back. You can see them (somewhat) in these pictures:

Unfortunately, I believe it's a Markland item - and as such, it's going to be hard to find. You might want to contact the original seller.

i see it perfectly...and understand the function now...here is another request. Can u trace & or give me the dimensions of that mount? Along with hole placement so i can try to get someone to fabricate it. I was hoping this would of been an easy adventure adding this item to the bike. Hmmm, it seems that everyone is yelling replace timing belts...is there a defect on this model, or is it something that should be considered regular maintenance. gonna install that 7 volt thing i bought here in the gauge cluster today hoping that its the solution to them not functioning...

I'll get a closer look at the brackets this weekend for you.

Have a look at this in the meantime: How to remove and replace your seat

As for the timing belts...it's not a defect, but there are a few issues:

- Belts don't last forever
- Bikes tend to sit for longer periods of time, letting the belts "sit" in one position, which can cause early wear
- Belts don't show wear - a belt on the verge of breaking can look perfectly fine, no cracks or visible degradation
- (most importantly) if a belt breaks, it will trash the top end of your engine, and potentially the pistons - basically, it will do enough damage that it's more economical to just replace the entire engine.
