diagnosing turn signal not working

Postby RikEase@gmail.com » Mon Dec 06, 2010 3:40 pm

The horn works, same fuse, but no turn signal. I see the flasher but uncertain about how to remove it for inspection/testing. Do I have to take the false tank off to get to it?

Yup, it's underneath the false tank, on the left side. You might want to have a read through this thread.

You might want to take WingAdmin's advice and replace it with an electronic type, so it will be able to handle LED bulbs when you get ready to replace them.

Thanks for the advise, but I don't understand why one needs to take the false tank off to extract the flasher, which seems to be in a rubber holder. I tried pulling on it but didn't want to force it. When I turn the switch L or R the front lights go off, no rear signals.

You can probably get at it without removing the false tank if your hands are small enough, but it's MUCH easier to do with the false tank removed. Just swapped mine out for an electronic flasher. Next is buying the bulbs WA mentioned in another thread.
You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape!

What was the number on your electronic flasher?

Thanks for all responses. I am new to this bike. I took it for my first longer ride and the turn signals are working, not very bright at idle, but normally at speed.
