83 interstate fuel pump

Postby glasshead » Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:07 pm

Hey guys

I was "dinking" around on ebay last week and saw a fuel pump up for bids for $25 bucks. I thought that a spare fuel pump would be nice to have around at that price, so I put in a bid. (Mine is working fine). Besides, I really didn't think I would get it. Well  I got it. My question is, I assume the diaphram in there is rubber, (what else could it be :?: ). How long will I be able to keep it without it dry rotting or some such calamity. Or is there a way to store it indefinatlly?

thanx rich

Not just rubber. Suggest you open it up and take a look are sure it's functional? Also check the pucks make sure they are not frozen in place. I have put a little Vaseline on diaphragms to seal them and lubricate for storage. You may want to rebuild the pump now with a new diaphragm and then store it away in a sealed baggie.
