Aftermarket saddlebags

Post by msslaughter » Wed Dec 15, 2010 12:42 pm

I recently got my hands on a 1981 GL1100 and would like to use it as a commuter, but I need a little more storage space. Does anyone have any experience using universal saddlebag supports like these: ... ingdocs-20

Is there some better way to go about putting aftermarket saddlebags on my new (to me) baby?

I think those are for throw over soft leather saddle bags like the cruiser and chopper bunch use a lot. I've never used them as I use the hard bags so I can lock them. They are also more weather tight which is more desireable in the tropcal climate of the Houston/Galveston area. The ones in that picture are of a strange design I've never encountered before.

I used these Nelson Riggs saddle bags on my '82. They are a good size and don't need those brackets. Here is the site... ... ebags.html

They also have other bags you can compare .. doug
