hi i have a 1982 gl1100 that needs a complete exhaust, i have found a complete exhaust for a gl1000 will it fit

Not without some welding and work. It can be done, but it's not a simple bolt-on replacement.

i thought the headers where the same and the mufflers where sligfhtly differant???

I think the 78-79 system will fit but you will have to modify the rear hanger brackets or fabricate new ones. You may have to use the 1100 headers also but not sure. Its been about 15 yrs since we did this so my memory is a bit foggy.
