Coolant Leak

Postby gcatlett » Sun Dec 26, 2010 11:30 am

I've got a bad coolant leak on the left side running water/anti-freeze on the top of the cylinder. Where is it coming from and how do I fix it???

Guessing a hose clamp broke or is leaking. Is it leaking when running or just sitting there?
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Without more info from you , I would venture a guess that it is the O-rings in the coolant crossover tubes. They get old and dry out, easy enough to change out just time consuming.easier if you remove the carbs but not nessesary to.

It's like a dripping faucet when the bike is sitting still and running. How do I access the problem?

First thing I would do is pull the fairing lower off of the left side, three screws. Then look under the carbs, there are tubes running from the heads to the center then forward to the thermostat housing. Each joint has an "o" ring inside. Here a picture showing the tubes minus the carbs.
