Pistol Pete's

Postby lowmanj » Mon Jan 24, 2011 8:08 pm

Anyone ever deal with Pistol Pete's in Texas? They offer a full carb rebuild, using Randakk parts.
On the up side, these folks advertise that they attach the rebuilt carbs to their shop bike and do all the adjustments and vacuum checks, etc.
I'll get them back in the mail ready to bolt on and fine tune.

On the down side, there is more cost and a chance of screwing it up. I could try to rebuild them myself with the Randakk kit and book. But despite having opposable thumbs and tenacity to spare, I've never touched a carburator, much less four of them.

How hard is it to tune the carbs and do all the adjustments after I put the million or so small pieces back together?
Thanks

Look at the "HOW TO" section. Syncing them is really not that hard. Other than sync it's the idle adjustment and mixture ajustments.

Thanks for the timely and helpful responses.
I pulled the carb bank out this evening. Having read the how-to on carbs several times, and seeing it there on the work bench, my confidence is up. I'll order the rebuild kit this week.
Thanks again

The Carb's on the 81's have pressed in jets they call them slow jets they also have other jets too, but the slow jets cause many problems for folks with idle problems. Just so you know.. :D Look in one of those towers and you should see the jet's end.. :D They can be removed..

Sounds challenging, and I'm looking forward to digging in there. If it's as bad in there as I expect, I'll post some pics.
Thanks

That's good to know. Their before- after pics of the carbs certainly looked impressive.
Did you have carb work there or other?
I already bought the Randakk master kit with the book. Within a few minutes of ordering it I got an e-mail from them, in case I had questions. Within an hour or so they had it in the mail! I hope to have it in time for some weekend tinkering.
Thanks
