Fork Replacement 81 GL1100 Interstate

Postby russ85228 » Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:27 pm

I am a rookie at repair though I am mechanically inclined. I recently acquired an 80 GL 1100 Interstate and the forks are gouged. I bought another set of forks and wish to put them on before I take the bike in to have new seals and Progressive springs installed. any help would be greatly appreciated...

If your going thru the trouble of putting the replacements on then you might as well rebuild them yourself and save the money. Here's a nice how to on doing them. It's really not that hard.

Take the new forks in with you..they should pull the old ones anyway to do the seals..so have them pull the old ones and return them to you..(sell on eBay) and rebuild the "new" ones..and install..should be the same price..as it's no more work.

Or take the new ones in have them rebuild them if you don't want to try and do it yourself. Then swap out the old for new yourself that's not hard at all and save a little shop time/fees.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
