Tran Question 1980 gl1100
This may seem silly but i dont know whats going on here. So i was playing around with the neutral light by shifting between the gears when i noticed that the back tire is still locked even when i pull the clutch in... I have the bike on its stand and it isnt on. I know the clutch works cause i rode the bike off the trailer and into my driveway. Is it just doing this because the bike is off or am i screwed?

Sometimes when they are not running you can get a neutral indication but it's still in gear. POP it down into 1st then go for neutral again might take a few tries but it will go to neutral.

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
OK you are turning the rear wheel by hand and it is moving while in 1st gear right? but bike is not running ? Is the clutch ingaged or are you pulling it in?

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
ok lol no.
bike is on stand
when the bike is in neutral the back tire spins (as it should)
When the bike is in 1st -5th gear and the clutch is NOT engaged, the tire does not spin (as it shouldnt)
anytime the bike is in one of these gears and i engage the clutch, the back tire still does not spin.
see?

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
sounds like the clutch is dragging a little. It would do this if the bike has been sitting for awhile, cluthch plates sticking together .
When the bike is on the ground,in gear, clutch pulled, engine off can you roll the bike easily? yes? good no problem
With bike in gear, clutch pulled in ,engine running does the bike want to creep forward? yes? clutch cable might need adjusting.too much slack. No? sticky clutch plates. Dose the engine oil with Seafoam, change oil and filter and ride the wheels off it.

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
ok got it now with bike in gear you pull the clutch in the wheel will not spin freely. Sounds like your clutch needs to be bled might have air in line or low on fluid.Could also be your clutch master cylinder, nothing to bad so far Hal PS thanks RoadRogue My Bad 1980 does not have hydraulic clutch. So never mind!lol Hal

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
tallman21 If you put her in neutral try turning the wheel by hand if it feels hard to turn it could be the axle bolt is to tight or possibly your bearings . Have you checked the differential fluid, look in the fill hole you can also see your gears when your turning it they should look nice and clean, could still be a clutch adjustment issue. Hal

Re: Tran Question 1980 gl1100
Guess once you get a chance to get out and run some SEAFOAM in the engine it will help with the clutch until then keep up the good work Hal

You must know where Mt Abram High is then, as it serves Stratton. I built a place across from the high school.
