Hesitation at 1/4 Throttle

Postby trekjefftrek » Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:51 pm

Hello,

Last summer I was having a problem with a hesitation at the 1/4 throttle range on my 1983 GL1100. This hesitation happens at all speeds but only at the 1/4 throttle spot. Since then I rebuilt the carbs and synced them. I removed the carbs 5 times through out the summer to make minor adjustments and to clean them again. I changed the timing belts, replaced the fuel filter and fuel lines, replaced the spark plugs, and burned a couple of cans of Seafoam. I put 5000 miles on my bike last year and I had to deal with this issue all year. Could it be something other than the carbs? Could this be a valve problem?

Thanks for your help.

Jeff

Sounds like floats are set wrong... Randal Washington (Randakk) has great info on the 1100 carbs...
Check on this page for some good info and he also sells great parts too...

Joe,
I changed the Accelerator pump and the air cut off valves last year. I haven't checked the vacume advance yet. I'll let you know what happens.
Ed,
I've been on Randakk's site. I got a lot of good info from him. I changed the float levels a few times last year and the bike didn't run any different.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

I'll keep you informed as the process of elimination continues.

Have you tried adjusting the accel.pump lever? Randakks site will tell you how to do this,If that dont work pull the carbs and check the pump,I found a piece of trash in one hole of my gasket, took it out put it back on the bike,no more problem.
