New Owner with Basket Case-Puzzle to Solve

Postby mcneeceg » Wed Mar 02, 2011 2:39 am

Okay, I have a 83 Aspencade. I have downloaded the manuals and parts breakdowns. I have viewed a lot of the How To articles mostly for the clear pictures. Problem is I need to know where the Cruise control module mounts. Also is there a good pic of the radiator brackets? Especially the bottom part, I might be missing a bracket or two? Then there is this plastic half cylinder with two vacuum hoses attached to one end? What is it and where does it mount and hook up at? I am also fuzzy about a couple of chrome flat brackets that seem to wrap around the engine crash bars and have tiny holes and a little tang at the ends? Looking for detailed pictures that are better than the parts manuals! Can probably figure out the rest! Thanks in advance- your forum seems to be well put together!

If you can upload some pic's of the things you are talking about then maybe we can tell you where they go,As for the Radiator brackets ,go to 5-2 of the manual.Hope this helps.Joe

Okay I will try! Plastic Half-Round box with two hoses, metal brackets, and where does the hose for suspension compressor plug into? I checked the service manual and it seems I am missing the bottom bracket and two side brackets for radiator. Thanks for the guidance!

I have two 81 interstates and an 82 interstate that I have had completly apart down to the bare frame and I have never seen those parts before. Those are probaly parts only used on the aspencade that have to do with the air ride,That would be my guess,As for the lower radiator bracket I have a spare if you need it,When I had my 82 apart my dogs swiped my upper bracket so I had to buy both to get one ,So I have a spare. My email address is jfheins@elmore.rr.com ,Let me know.Joe

Thanks for looking Joe! Maybe someone with an 83 Aspencade can respond! The cruise control was a unique feature ordered special so I will just mount in a hole! The plastic canister I really need to solve. Looks as if it might mount on the rail in front of gas tank after air box and air pump go in but do not know what to plug it into? And the loose hose from the air compressor? I am holding the hose up and it has some kind of filter or check valve on it but has marks on end of hose like it was on something.

That compressor hose doesn't hook up to anything - that's the air intake for the compressor. The end of the hose is left open, and the round flat part is a small particulate filter. You can see it positioned in the lower part of this picture:

Great info, it is a relief to know! Wingman can you tell me if the top picture plastic canister with the two hoses on one end mounts just out of sight and to the bottom in your picture? If so what does it hook into? Seems to be the only place it will fit, do not know if it even belongs on the Aspencade, it was in one of the saddlebags with the radiator and air box!

I'm not quite sure what that is - it's nothing I've seen before, and there certainly isn't one on my bike.

Thanks for looking! I scrubbed the dirt off and found the letters TPI on end with hoses. That is some kind of emissions canister off what I don't know. Puzzles are fun! She only has 26k on her but has been sitting for over 10 years. My midnight special was similar and she is my daily! Thanks again!

It is the crank case breather storage tank, it mounts behind the engine on the frame and the hoses go to the Aircleaner, and the crank case breather.

Is it possible to get a picture of where it is mounted? I might have room in the false tank toward the back directly in front of the gas cap!

No, the crank case breather tank is cylindrical and much shorter than the item he has in the picture.

I don't see any nipples small enough on air box to match hoses. The hose from crankcase breather is almost 1/2 inch wide. I do not know if it belongs. Guess when I start it and it is sucking air somewhere I will find out. Thank you for looking. Still searching the guys shop for a couple of missing parts. Puzzle without all pieces so much fun!
