Fuel gauge removal?

Postby damianbarna » Sun Sep 13, 2009 5:26 pm

I want to remove my fuel gauge from the tank to provide acces to the tank to vacuum it out. Any suggestions? It looks like it turns to the left and then lifts up. Can I use a tap tap and a screw driver like a slotted collar? Tank was rusty but played reverse elotrolysis to clean it up.

Thanks,

Damian

I used a pair of Channelock pliers to rotate the ring to remove the fuel sender. Keep in mind you'll probably have to replace the 30 year old rubber gasket, so you'd better have one on hand first.

Also, make sure the tank is at least half full (or less) before doing this. The fuel sender port is lower than the fuel filler neck - removing the fuel sender on a full tank of gas will be very messy (and potentially very dangerous!).

Thanks for your guidance. The tank is currently filled with water so no fire hazard. :D
