Mirrors?

Postby rjbrownley » Mon Mar 21, 2011 6:35 am

I just had to change the stock mirrors on my 83 GL1100 because they were too loose, so I bought a pair of OEM mirrors and installed them yesterday. The problem I am have is that if you adjust them too much, they loosen up just like the old ones. The only way to tighten them up is to remove them and tighten the bolt that is under the base. Does anyone have any idea if there are better mirrors that I can buy? The design of the stock mirrors is junk.

I bought a set of aftermarket mirrors from http://www.partsnmore.com that look identical to the OEM's. I've had them on for a year or so now, and they're nice and tight. I tried a few different things on my old mirrors to try to get them to tighten up, with no luck.

I'm also having trouble keeping mirrors adjusted. Even the wind at highway speed moves them. Thanks for the pointer to a source for an alternate solution.

Does the bolt loosen from vibration. If so, try some loc-tite, liquid or tape. Once you have adjusted your mirrors, why
would you want to move them :?:

Because:

- You are carrying more load, changing the ride of the bike
- You are carrying a passenger, changing the ride of the bike
- You get tired, causing you to slouch more

I am constantly adjusting my mirrors, particularly throughout a long ride.

You need to get an 1800, then you can wind the rear suspension up and down to fix your first 2 issues!! Then stick a broom handle in your jacket (running down your back) to stop you slouching and the 3rd issue is taken care off!! :D

There are two adjustment spots on oem ,if you remove the glass you will see the second one,it is not hard to remove the glass,Just be careful take your time and DONT BREAK IT.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I am going to work on them this weekend.
