carb rebuild parts for 83 gl1100 interstate

Postby chuk4251 » Sat Mar 26, 2011 2:16 pm

I could really use some good advice on where to get some good rebuild kits. I got some cheap rebuild kits from ebay and none of the o-rings were the right size. The Honda dealer wants an arm and a leg for their stuff. Please help!

I keep reading about that site. I will have to give it a shot.

If I need float valves or jets, where should I go?

This forum is awesome! Lots of good advice and how-to's on here!

Randakk's is the only thing you need to know...

Randall Washington has EVERYTHING covered when it comes to carburetors on the GoldWing.

Instead of replying to the posting, you should have been on the Randakk's website, drooling at all the cool kits he has to offer... (my own personal favorite is his GL1100 Master Carb Overhaul Kit)

If you have never done a carb rebuild then consider purchasing Howard Halasz' GL1100 Carburetor Repair Guide.. It is pretty good for helping out a beginner to do a complete rebuild, there are even DVD guides available (I haven't seen one, but I would be pretty sure that they are well done and easy to follow)

So stop replying to the postings and go to the darn website and see for yourself already!!!!

I wonder what the parts were for that you got off ebay. Do you remember the company or individual that sold you the kit so maybe someone else doesn't make that same mistake, did you tell them that it was wrong or for the wrong bike.. What happened.. ??? Was it Saber Cycle ?? They should take it back..and send the correct items..Please let us know here..

It was Saber Cycle. And they are going to let me send the parts back. I have read several stories about how Saber has sold parts that weren't exactly right. The kits i bought from Saber looked okay except for the o-rings. They didn't believe me, but didn't want to argue about it. I will update when i get my refund. I decided to go ahead and get the master kit from www.randakks.com, it seems to be everything i need. Randall seems knowledgable and committed to the parts he sells.

Mark this on the calendar. You may be the first to ever get a return authorization or no argument from Saber Cycle. Please let us know if this works out and you get a refund. Perhaps they have seen the light. ;) I doubt it.
Also Randakks rebuild kit doesn't come with float valves. The only reliable source is Mother Honda. Other kit float valves are not reliable and may not seal properly from the start.

Float needles only buy OEM..see randall's sight for why. you can clean all the jets shouldn't need to replace them if you do OEM.

Getting the carbs out

remove the seat, remove the lower fairings, take the false tank off(two bolts under the seat two at the front lower corners 10mm,) remove air box, remove the fuel line with the filter on it, remove two right side carb caps and springs..leave slides in...remove all intake bolts..carbs are now loose, tie plugs wires up and out of the way, remove throttle cables..it hard to reach in there but it can be done you need two 10mm wrenches. Then you pull the carbs out the 2/4 side it's tight and takes some wiggling if you have crash bars you will need to at least loose the 2/4 side. When i reinstall I run the throttle cables outside the frame makes it easier to attach and remove if needed later.

"remove throttle cables..it hard to reach in there but it can be done you need two 10mm wrenches."

Any tips on getting it back into place, particularly the throttle cables aspect?

I did end up getting a full refund from saber cycle. Pretty much no questions asked. The kit I got from randakk was absolutely perfect.

The throttle cables were the first things I attached when I put my carbs back on the bike. It seemed to help since I could move them around for access.
