Postby bcnv1100 » Mon Apr 04, 2011 8:30 am

Hey, I've had my 81 1100 for about 3 weeks now and ride pretty early when its still dark. The head light is ok but old , has anybody traded it out with the bright hd lights?? If so what style / brand works good and can i change just the builb or is it the whole headlight that needs to change? Thanks!!

You can replace the bulb with a Sylvania Silverstar bulb, and it is MUCH MUCH brighter. Make sure you get the Motorcycle version of the Silverstar, as it is more resistant against vibration.

SilverStar bulbs are a good replacement for stock.
Very bright light and nice pattern.

Try this if you need to replace the whole headlight. Direct replacement. Really nice.

I emailed them last summer and asked if you could buy just one, instead of the pair that they sell for $44. Here's what I got in reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. We can sell you one for $24.95. You can place an
order with me through email or call our Customer Service Department at
215-234-8989 and tell them that I said so.
If I can be of further assistance please don't hesitate to contact me.

I recently replaced my old light with a Bosch unit I had lying about the shop. Its old and even starting to yellow but is still brighter than the stock unit. Whats more, I like the pattern it throws out in front of me much better. I wonder though, if the units made for cars have the same fluting on the lenses and throw the same light pattern as the one sold for motorcycle use. I looking to up grade some of my other bikes.

Try changing all lamps to LED's.. Your headlamp will be brighter. Why? more avalible amperage to the headlamp!
