Brake reservoir is rotting.

The reservoir for the brake fluid is starting to fall apart. Has anyone had to replace this part? How? Thanks!

It has an O ring under it that keeps it secure. I believe the 1200 model is one piece and can be used in place of the 1100 unit. No personal experience with the 1200 unit just heard that through the grapevine...I mean forum.

If you mean the front reservoir it had recently been replaced on the '83 that I purchased a few weeks back as it rotted out.

I just had to replace mine also....cracked and leaking
I found one on EBAY under $45.00 w/ shipping. it is off a newer bike i think. breaks bled and work like new. Mine came with a nifty chrome cover...;-} looks nicer than the old one
Now as i was searching for front Progressive springs this morning. I noticed there are a couple of more sets for sale...check out EBAY.

Hey WingAdmin , Hind sight is 20/20
Didn't spoil my day. ..I get a lot of good prices off Ebay, mostly hard to find parts.
I picked up the whole front brake assy , including a custom chrome cap for the reservoir ,the cap keeps the Sun off and it wont Crack. ;-]...it is in very good shape. so I lucked out.
thanks for the new hook up for parts . what is the quality like? Carb Kits any good?
thanks for all you input .

I've used partsnmore for rebuild kits for all of my brake calipers, all of my master cylinders, and my water pump, and they have all been of top quality. I have no problem whatsoever in recommending them.

However....carb stuff is FAR more picky in terms of tolerance and quality. The partsnmore carb kits may be of top quality and work great - I can't say, as I haven't used them. That said, I think for carb rebuild stuff, I would be going to Randakk's.

I ordered parts to rebuild 81 GL1100 brakes (calipers and master cylinders) from PartsnMore after joining this site and reading of them. By the way thanks for sharing, the grease gun idea was much appreciated.

I expected, living in Canada, that they would be sourced out of USA and I paid in US dollars. They arrived promptly as ordered from Stratford Ontario. No comment yet on quality, etc, (weather has not been conducive). They are aftermarket, not Honda OEM.

Yup, they are a Canadian company. They are aftermarket, but the quality I found was quite good.

The sun eats up those plastic reservoirs..but if you paint it..it lasts for a lot longer..even the ones that are already damaged can be saved if painted..
