Searching for soarce of stains

Post by kalekk » Mon Apr 25, 2011 11:45 am

I haven't ruled out the carbs yet but Some sort of liquid gets on top of my engine and leaves rusty orange stains. It might be coolant, it seems to leave an oily film where it had pooled after it has evaporated. I never see it dripping, all I ever see is traces when I come back to the bike after it rests. Do the water pipes tend to leak thru the O-rings, could it be the head gaskets? I saw this question in a thred but I can't seem to find that thred. I have seen these same stains on other bikes as well. I think it is common. Your thoughts are welcome.

The O-rings on those coolant tubes above the engine tend to go, causing them to leak coolant onto the top of the engine - that's likely the source of your stains.

I'm not sure about the type of scoot you have but if you have a standard radiator cap a pressure teser will help find a leak, it did with mine and it was just the cap.

You should drain the coolant to find out what is the cause of the rusty oily substance. If the coolant is leaking rusty oily stains on the engine it may just be time for a good radiator flush or if there is oil in there you could have a leak in a head gasket. Either way you need to find out.

Leaking gas ends up as orange looking stain on the engine top
