Single low seat

Postby bcnv1100 » Wed May 04, 2011 4:36 pm

I have a 81 1100, drive it everyday to work. Anybody know of a different seat other than the stock bench looking one. It feels like i'm hovering over the bike instead of with it. I would love a low profile seat , a single seat would even be better since its just me riding ..

My brother and I have taken a sawzall to the stock seat and welded parts of it back together last night. Next weekend we'll put down some foam and rivet vinyl back on to the seat. This is a first for me but seems to going good so far. I'll post some pics next weekend when we get done. I've been taking pics as we've gone along.

It was a little more difficult than we thought trying to stretch the vinyl and rivet at the same time. We cut part of the metal out and welded some back and also welded a bolt on the bottom of the seat pan going through the rear fender to bolt down.

Only a thought but have you looked at a solo seat for a VTX or Shadow? these mount to the tank area similar to the wings but only have a single bolt in the back. You of course would have to fabricate some kind of rear mount but I dont think it would be to hard.

get an old beat up seat, strip it and put in a thin layer of high density foam and then strip a solo gel seat cover and glue it on on the foam and cover it. I'm gonna be doing that, and keeping the mint full seat for longer rides.
