Oh Well, ya win some and lose some

Postby cpawilly » Wed May 04, 2011 9:57 pm

Thanks for all the help guys but the flickering oil pressure lite problem I spoke about a few weeks ago is a major one and seems to be getting worse. Now it take 12-1300 rpm to get the lite to go out and I can't spend the time or money to rebuild the motor. My loss will be someones gain. I will look for another 1100 or 1200 once this one is gone. I rolled the dice and lost this one.

Well I bought a set of pistons off of ebay for my 83 block that had the hole in #3 piston. If the bike does not sell I will start rebuilding that block. Never done any work this far into a motor so it should be interesting. In the mean time I wondered if putting some MOTOR HONEY in the 82 motor might get me through the summer riding season. Just want to commute to work and back about 40 miles per day.

I went and bought the Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I figure I have nothing to lose. If I rebuild the 83 motor it won't be done till next spring. Buying an unkown motor is another roll of the dice that I am not willing to make. I did that already and this is where it got me.

I'm assuming you have checked the oil screen, right? If it is a blockage somewhere in the engine causing the problem, some MMO or Seafoam in the crankcase might clear things up enough to get you riding.

Have you considered the possibility of a bad oil pressure switch? Might be worth actually measuring the oil pressure and seeing whether or not it is within spec.

Already did the seafoam thing. Oil screen was pulled and washed as was the entire motor in my monster (55 Gal) parts cleaner. Already tried another oil pressure switch too. Nope, I am afraid the motors got to come out. The good news is that I bought another 82 Aspencade today for $250 that the guy say the motor is good in. Well here we go again. While I am working on this new motor I will try the Lucas Oil Treatment and see if I can limp through the summer on the knocking motor. THANKS littlebeaver for the info on the KCcraigslist bike

The Lucas oil treatment seems to be helping. 1100 rpm and no oil lite. 1000 I still get the lite flashing. I'll run it till the new motor is ready.
