82 GL Running Rich

Postby Alex2010 » Sat May 07, 2011 5:47 pm

Got the bike back in the fall, and noticed that it's running rich(I think)..
Bike starts fine but idles rough when its cold, once it warms up it seems ok.
In Neutral, if I crack the throttle a bit it stumbles until it's nice and hot.
The fumes from the exhaust seems rich, so much so that you can smell it in your clothes after the ride. (Cold or Hot)
On the road it has good power when I accelerate and runs smooth.
Haven't checked the fuel economy yet.
Anybody know what these bikes get??

Went for a ride today, man was it nice to be on the road...
I live in Mississauaga, and we've had a cold wet spring so todays weather was awesome.
Thanks

If you're doing reasonable highway riding without getting hard on the throttle, 45 mpg is reasonably attainable.

45 MPG or 6L/100km is better than I would have expected..
I'm thinking one of the cylinders isn't firing.
Seems to have a bit of a stumble at intermediate throttle positions.
Put fresh plugs in last week.
I'll start with swapping out the plug wires and go from there.

Thanks for your input
