Repair a 1982 Speedometer

Postby dakelley58 » Mon May 09, 2011 6:01 pm

Is it possible to effect repairs on a 1982 Interstate speedo? Mine has been wobbling for quite some time, but finally died today. It makes a screeching noise, and the speedo needle does not move (stays down at 0). However, I know that some of the internals are still working as the odometer (and the trip odometer) continue to rack up the miles (and appear to be racking them up accurately). If repairs are not possible, I can certainly acquire a used replacement one, but with that is it possible to set the odometer value on the replacement unit to my current odometer value so that total miles on the bike remain correct (I am just about to roll over 100,000, and I would like to retain the actual mileage)?

repair is possible but not simple..depending on what's wrong. To get in you have to cut the selling ring off..easier to buy a used one on eBay.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
