82 I swing arm bearings Lube?

Postby lbman » Wed May 18, 2011 5:26 am

Is there an easy way to lube swing arm bearings?
According to Clymer manual a person would have to disassemble swing arm to do anything to bearings. and this looks like a huge project.
my bike seems to have a lot of free play in the drive line also. any way to determine how much free play in drive line?
?'s, ?'s always ?'s
but, some one always has the answers. :D

You need to remove the swingarm in order to remove/replace the swingarm bearings. However, if you want to just apply lube (grease), you can do it with the swingarm in the bike.

You remove one pivot pin at a time (the remaining pin keeps the swingarm in place and aligned, and there is enough room to reach a finger in and push the grease into the bearing (it is a tapered bearing).

Keep in mind that it is very important to get the torque of the pivot pins and locking nut correct. Too loose and your swingarm will have lateral movement, too tight and it will bind up and damage bearings.
