Re-chroming plastic parts

Postby OldRN-CO » Thu May 19, 2011 2:40 pm

Anyone have an affordable source for either new plastic chrome parts or replating plastic parts which are shedding the chrome after 30 years? :(
I need the chrome vent accents for 81 GL1100 Interstate and the oil access cover on right side of engine.

Those aren't OEM parts, they're aftermarket.

My best guess would be to find a non-destructive way to remove what's left of the chrome paint on them, clean them really well, and re-spray with chrome spray paint.

Does the chrome paint look decent?

I've used the chrome paint before, and it looked good as long as the surface was prepared well. Your mileage may vary.
