any ideas?

Postby Gpa_Joe » Wed Jun 01, 2011 7:05 pm

ok, a couple problems, 1 minor, 1 is troubling...

first, my bike only shows neutral light when i am in gear 4, pia, but i can deal with it...

second, it seems to be leaking oil from the lt valvle cover gasket, seems to be worse "after" i tightened a bolt, and seems to be really bad when I have it on the side kickstand warming up...?

any ideas?

Thanks much,

Joe

Can we assume that the water pump was replaced? The neutral switch is under that cover.Oil leaks are usually just gasket related. At the cover and behind the bolt washers.Get a new set, adjust the valves and live with the mis-aligned neutral switch.OR pull the front cover and re-align it.(another new gasket and "O" rings).

neautral switch is just an annoyance. the oil leak i would like to take care of.

when I order the valve cover gasket, does that come with the 4 gaskets on the bolts?

and yes, the guy I bought it from had just "replaced" the water pump...

What gave that away?

Well ,you have to pull the front cover off the bike to get to the water pump. Also mounted in the front cover is the neutral switch,it' a rotary type that can (and obviously) turned 180deg and put back on.
I don't think the bolt seals come with the valve cover seals. It's most likely a separate item.
The bolts have a shoulder above the threads to stop them from over squashing the seals.

The bolt seals DO NOT come with the valve cover gaskets these need to be ordered seperatly and are sold each (not in a set) I suggest buying a few extra there good to have in your tool box.

when installing gaskets go slow and be careful not to pinch it. If you do you can damage gasket and you will be back to it leaking and need to buy another gasket. Just go slow, and check yourself.
